The best beaches near our properties are Ocean Park (a 5-minute walk from our apartments, and San Juan's largest beach) and Piñones & Loíza (a 10-minute drive east), home to the La Poza natural pool and a quieter, more local stretch of coast.
🏖️ Ocean Park Beach — a 5-minute walk
Our Ocean Park apartments are literally a few blocks from the sand. Ocean Park is San Juan's largest beach — a 2-mile stretch with a laid-back, residential vibe, unlike the resort scene at Condado. It's popular with local surfers, paddleboarders and windsurfers, with gentle, consistent surf that's usually calm enough for swimming. There aren't many facilities directly on the beach, but local vendors sell snacks and drinks nearby.
Local tip: head down Calle Taft toward the beach for a beach tennis and sand volleyball spot, plus an outdoor calisthenics station right where the street meets the sand.
🥥 Piñones & Loíza — a 10-minute drive
A short drive east along the coast, Piñones is a more rustic, unspoiled stretch — mangroves and wooden boardwalks against rolling waves. In Loíza, La Poza (Posita) de Piñones is a natural pool protected by a coral wall, with clear, calm water that's great for families, kids learning to swim, or anyone who just wants to float. Along the way, "kioskos" (casual roadside stands) serve fritters like alcapurrias and bacalaítos, plus fresh coconut water.
